Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain - Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero said Friday that the Nobel Peace Prize awarded to US President Barack Obama acted as an "encouragement and endorsement" for him to achieve "conquests of peace."The award had a "strategic interest," Zapatero said in Las Palmas on the Canary Islands.
The Nobel Committee had wanted to express support for how Obama understood international relations, including his search for a greater understanding between different cultures and nations, the premier explained.
Obama's goals were "positive for the world," Zapatero said.
