Dhaka - The Bangladeshi government on Wednesday named its first ambassador to Iraq since the United States invaded the country in 2003. Career diplomat Muhammad Kamaluddin is to take up his position at Bangladesh's embassy in Baghdad, which closed in the wake of the invasion, a government statement said.
The decision came after the recommendation of a government team that visited Baghdad this year to assess the security situation there.
Bangladesh has expressed eagerness to take part in reconstruction work in Iraq.
Kamaluddin joined the Foreign Service in 1973 and has served in Warsaw, Abu Dhabi, Rome, Riyadh and Kuala Lumpur.
