Rio de Janeiro - Sevilla striker Luis Fabiano is out to confirm in the last two rounds of the South American qualifiers for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa that he is Brazil's top centre- forward. "I'm living through the most complete phase in my career, even if I didn't win a title last season with Sevilla," Luis Fabiano said in an interview that the daily O Estado de Sao Paulo published Tuesday.
Brazil's top goalscorer joined his national team colleagues Tuesday, ahead of qualifiers Saturday against Bolivia and Wednesday next week against Venezuela.
Although Brazil have already secured a place in the World Cup, Luis Fabiano, 28, is hoping to keep scoring goals to brace his own position in the team.
"In the national team I am gradually consolidating my place in the starting line-up, but honestly I still do not see myself in the World Cup. I will only believe that once the squad list is out," he said.
The man that Brazilian fans nickname "O Fabuloso" (the fabulous) insisted that he does not feel frustrated by the fact that his plans to join Milan did not work out this summer.
"I am happy at Sevilla. I have one-and-a-half years left in my contract. After that I would like to join another European club, or perhaps return to Brazil."
He noted that Sevilla can deliver surprises, as it did by beating Real Madrid this weekend, and that they are currently "the third force" in Spanish football, after Barcelona and Real Madrid.
"On the one hand that is good, because it puts pressure on rivals. But on the other hand it's bad, because a player always wants to fight for titles, and with those two teams around it is very difficult to think of titles."
