New York - Talk show host David Letterman issued a public apology to his wife Monday after admitting last week that he had conducted sexual affairs with women who worked for him. "She has been horribly hurt by my behaviour, and when something happens like that, if you hurt a person and it's your responsibility, you try to fix it," he said during the opening monologue of his show.
"At that point, there's only two things that can happen: Either you are going to make some progress and get it fixed, or you are going to fall short and perhaps not get it fixed, so let me tell you folks, I got my work cut out for me."
Letterman was targeted in an alleged 2-million-dollar extortion scheme by a producer at CBS whose girlfriend was Letterman's assistant and had an affair with him. The producer, Robert Joe Halderman, was charged Friday with grand larceny.
