Berlin - Germany has honoured a 50-year-old business executive who was killed by thugs at a Munich station when he tried to stop them robbing a quartet of children, a presidential spokesman said Sunday in Berlin. The posthumous Cross of Merit was handed over Saturday to the parents of Dominik Brunner, whose September 12 death shocked Germany.
Brunner was hailed as a hero for selflessly stepping forward and trying to stop the two robbers who were terrorizing young teenagers at a mass-transmit station in the Munich suburb of Solln.
The two violent youths are to face murder charges for punching and kicking Brunner to death.
The presidential statement said Brunner was being honoured as Germany's thanks for his bravery in helping children in distress.
