Copenhagen - Chicago was eliminated on Friday in the first round of International Olympic Committee voting for the 2016 Games host city despite the personal lobbying of US president Barack Obama. Chicago reached the lowest number of votes. As none of the other bidders reached an overall majority from the 94 votes, Rio de Janeiro, Madrid and Tokyo will continue in a second round of voting.
Of the 106 IOC members, 103 are present in Copenhagen. The seven IOC members from the four countries of the bidding cities were not allowed to vote in the first round. IOC boss Jacques Rogge did also not take part but reserved the right to break a potential deadlock.
