Tokyo - Andy Murray dealt a second pullout blow to next week's Japan Open event as the Scot withdrew Thursday with a wrist injury. His pullout came just days after Roger Federer also cancelled, citing the fatigue of a season where he reached all four Grand Slam finals, winning two.

Murray pulled the plug on his website the day before the tournament draw.

"Andy is disappointed not to be competing in Japan, but on the basis of medical advice, he has decided to give his left wrist further time to recover.

"His injury is improving on a daily basis and Andy is very close to resuming full-training. The wrist will be assessed again this weekend."

Murray played Davis Cup for Britain in a losing cause against Poland, where the wrist problem he has been carried flared up.

The event will hope that any kind of similar affliction doesn't strike new US Open winner and 2008 finalist Juan Del Potro of Argentina, who will be top seed from Monday at the Ariake colosseum.
