Copenhagen - Three Danish soldiers have been sent home from Afghanistan and face charges over possessing illegal ammunition, the Jyllands-Posten newspaper reported Wednesday. The three soldiers - including one officer - had 20 so-called dum- dum bullets, a bullet designed to expand upon impact but which is banned under international conventions, the report said. "I can confirm that three soldiers from the Danish battalion in Afghanistan have been charged by the Advocate General's Corps over illegal ammunition for their handguns," Peter Otken of the Advocate General's Corps said. If convicted, the three could face life sentences but initial probes have not indicated they had fired the ammunition. All Danish troops with access to handguns have been checked, and both Defence Minister Soren Gade as well as the Danish military have criticized the soldiers. Denmark has some 500 troops in southern Afghanistan.
