London - Sarah Brown Tuesday lived up to her reputation as the "secret weapon" of embattled British Prime Minister Gordon Brown by declaring her love for her husband and urging the country to love him too. In an unscheduled introduction to Brown's speech to the annual Labour Party conference, she hailed her husband as a "hero."
"Gordon and I have been married for nine years now. We have seen each other through some tough times, perhaps great times, and we'll be together for all times," said 45-year-old Sarah.
"Because we have been together so long, I know he's not a saint. He's messy. He's noisy. He gets up at a terrible hour. But I know he wakes up every morning and goes to bed every evening thinking about the things that matter. I know he loves our country."
When she first met him she found it hard to understand that a person "so intense, so intelligent, could be so gentle, ask so many questions, could really care" she said.
"That's part of the reason why I love him as much as I do. That is what makes him the right man for Britain too."
