Amman - Jordan's King Abdullah II on Tuesday congratulated German Chancellor Angela Merkel on her re-election, saying Berlin had a "key role" to play in efforts towards a peaceful settlement of the Arab-Israeli conflict. "Germany, which maintains strong ties with Jordan and all other Arab countries, has a key and important role in bolstering security and stability in the Middle East and backing ongoing efforts that seek to re-establish just and comprehensive peace that all peoples of the region long to," the monarch said in his congratulatory cable. "We are confident that Germany, under your leadership, will not spare any effort to pursue its vital and important role in support of the world peace and stability and towards a better future for the human community," he told Merkel.
