Nairobi/Libreville - Gabon's constitutional court on Tuesday ordered a recount of all votes in last month's presidential elections following complaints of fraud from the losing candidates. Ali-Ben Bongo, the son of the West African nation's long-term leader Omar Bongo, was declared the winner of the election with just under 42 per cent of the vote.
However, Bongo's main rivals Andre Mba Obame and Pierre Mambounda both said that the election was rigged in Bongo's favour.
Ali-Ben Bongo's victory prompted several days of rioting and looting that claimed the lives of three people in the town of Port Gentil.
The recount was expected to begin mid-afternoon and to continue throughout the night.
Omar Bongo ruled the oil-producing nation for over 41 years, amassing a massive fortune in the process.
He was under investigation for stealing public money and using it to buy luxury properties in France at the time of his death.
