Manacor, Spain - Rafael Nadal was Monday testing his form in hopes of making a start at next week's Beijing ATP event and possibly fronting up for the new Shanghai Masters from October 12. The world number two was forced to withdraw from his intended Asian start in Bangkok, where he was to have headed the field in his debut in the Thai capital this week.

But on doctor's advice, the four-time French Open winner reluctantly skipped that date to rest an abdominal strain which he has carried for nearly a month and a half.

His website reported that the Spaniard has managed a brief pause, taking a holiday reprise on the French Riviera and in Monte Carlo last week prior to the final leg of the autumn season.

A Thai beach holiday on Krabi that he had originally planned was replaced as the Spaniard instead relaxed for a few days with friends in the equally stunning south of France.

In addition, he visited Monte Carlo in a non-tennis capacity, when among other activities he was invited to the Monaco Yacht show by the organisers of the event.
