Paris - French President Nicolas Sarkozy congratulated German Chancellor Angela Merkel late Sunday on her party's win in national elections. Sarkozy told Merkel he wished her "success with the important task with which Germans have entrusted her for a second time." The French leader said he looks forward to working with Merkel on global and regional issues, such as climate change and the economic crisis. Merkel secured victory on Sunday at the head of a new centre-right coalition that pairs her Christian Democrats with the pro-business Free Democratic Party (FDP) as junior partner. The FDP replaces her Social Democratic Party (SPD) partner of the past four years.
