Singapore - Formula One championship leader Jenson Button on Sunday said his fifth place in the Singapore Grand Prix felt like a win, as his closest contenders failed to gain ground. "It was a good race, it's almost like a win for me this weekend," said Button, who started the night race from twelfth place after a disastrous qualifying for his Brawn GP team.
"Fifth place, it doesn't sound that great, but it is when you look at my championship contenders," said the Briton.
After gaining four points for his fifth-place finish in Singapore, Button heads the drivers' standing with 84 points, followed by his teammate Rubens Barrichello on 69 points with just three races remaining.
Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel, who finished on fourth place after getting a drive-through penalty for speeding in the pit lane, is a distant third with 59 points.
"Our car didn't work as well as we had expected here," said Button. "But we still made the best of it."
Button said he was going into the next race on Japan's Suzuka circuit on the coming weekend "looking for a victory."
