Rome - A pulsating 2-2 away to combative Genoa Thursday allowed Juventus to draw level with Inter Milan at the top of the Italian Serie A. The hosts from the seaside city reversed the opener from Vincenzo Iaquinta through goals from Giandomenico Mesto and Hernan Crespo, but David Trezeguet levelled the score with a late goal.
Inter lead Juve only on goal difference as both sides have 13 points from five games. Sampdoria trail on 12 points and Genoa moved level with Fiorentina and promoted Parma on 10.
International striker Iaquinta scored his third goal of the season on six minutes, firing by the far post to the right of Marco Amelia as he volleyed home a low cross from Claudio Marchisio that rolled undisturbed along the edge of the Genoa box.
The hosts immediately began to press forward at a breathtaking pace, but brought no serious threat to Gianluigi Buffon until the 31st minute, when Mesto had the best of the towering Fabio Grosso to nod past the frozen goalkeeper.
Both sides were not satisfied with a draw and kept up a brisk pace after the break with Juve creating two telling chances on 53 minutes through a feeble shot from Marchisio followed by a lame spurt from Iaquinta.
Juve took the upper hand and again came close when Iaquinta on 63 minutes slipped on the uneven pitch as he spurted inside the goal area before Mauro Camoranesi nodded a good cross out of bounds.
Only on 71 minutes did Genoa threaten with a searing shot from Giuseppe Sculli that forced Buffon's deflection and took the lead four minutes later through a header from Argentine veteran Crespo, who had come on after the break.
Frenchman Trezeguet came on from Juve's bench with eight minutes left and levelled with four to go with an easy close-range header off a free kick action.
