New Zealand singer Howard Morrison dies

Wellington - New Zealand singer Sir Howard Morrison, one of the country's best-known Maori entertainers, died Thursday at age 74, news reports said, citing family members. He achieved fame leading the Howard Morrison Quartet, which had a string of hits in the 1950s and '60s, and as a solo performer he went on to make many tours of South-East Asia and Australia. Morrison was knighted in 1990 by British Queen Elizabeth, who is also queen of New Zealand. He is survived by his wife and three children.
