Los Angeles - It was business as usual at the Emmy television awards as the little watched but critically praised Mad Men retook the prize for top drama and NBC's 30 Rock picked up its third trophy for best comedy. Alec Baldwin of 30 Rock won the prize Sunday night for best lead actor in a comedy, but co-star Tina Fey, who created 30 Rock, lost out to Toni Collete for top comedy actress. Collete won for her role as a woman with multiple personalities in United States of Tara.
The 30 Rock series examines the behind-the-scenes goings-on at a network variety show while Mad Men, which screens on the AMC cable channel, focuses on the shenanigans surrounding a 1960s New York advertising agency.
The lead actress in a drama went to Glenn Close for her role as a feisty lawyer in Damages while Bryan Cranston was named best dramatic actor for Breaking Bad, in which he plays a drug-abusing high-school teacher.
