Moscow - Russian President Dmitry Medvedev in an interview broadcast Sunday warned of the consequences of a war between Israel and Iran. "This is the worst thing imaginable," the Kremlin chief told US broadcaster CNN.
However Russia would - despite protests from the United States - reserve the right to continue supplying weapons to Iran, Medvedev said.
Neither Iran nor Israel could, in the event of war, count on Russia's support, he added.
Medvedev said he hoped a decision of this nature was never made, according to the CNN interview, which the Kremlin said was recorded on September 15.
The Russian president also confirmed that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had paid a "secret visit"to Moscow in early September. Israel has to date not confirmed the visit.
Russian and Israel media have reported that their had focused on "sensitive security issues" and planned arms deals between Russia and Iran.
Iran is awaiting the delivery of S-300 missiles from Russia, which Tehran wants to use to secure its nuclear facilities, according to official reports. Russia is building Iran's first nuclear power plant.
