Liverpool, England - Andy Murray remains doubtful for the remainder of Britain's key weekend Davis Cup Euro zone relegation tie after injuring his wrist as he took the hosts into the lead with a 6- 4, 6-2, 6-4 defeat of Poland's number 678 Michal Przysiezny. The Scot world number three is fearful of compromising the rest of his season by playing on the wrist, which flared at the US Open.

"I don't want to sacrifice the lot to play in the tie and end up hurting myself so badly that I can't play for a few months," he told the BBC. "Every time I play on it, it's making it worse.

"You never know how much damage you can do to yourself, you just hope it doesn't get so bad you can't play."

Murray had hoped that rest earlier this week would put him right, but found out during the Friday match it was not to be the case.

Britain stand level with Poland 1-1 heading into Saturday doubles, where Murray was to have played this week. If he pulls out, Britain will likely field Colin Fleming and Ross Hutchins.

Murray, who hurt his right wrist two years ago and missed three months, will head to London for doctor visits.

"If it takes four months to get better, it takes four months. If it takes a week, then it'll take a week," he said.

Murray is entered in the Tokyo ATP event next month followed by the Shanghai Masters.
