New York - Yemen's warring factions should cease all fighting and allow humanitarian workers access to a refugee camp hit by an air raid that reportedly killed dozens of people, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said Friday. Ban voiced "deep concern" over casualty reports after the government launched airstrikes against targets in northern Yemen.
"The UN has launched a flash appeal to cover the immediate needs of those afflicted by the conflict in the country and stands ready to provide any additional assistance needed," he said.
In Geneva, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay urged Yemen to investigate the incident in which more than 80 refugees were reportedly killed.
"The government should launch a full-fledged investigation into what went wrong and take immediate measures to try to ensure we do not see a further avoidable tragedy of this nature," Pillay said in a statement.
