Baghdad - Iraqi and US forces on Wednesday said they had arrested three people suspected of involvement in a rocket attack on Baghdad's Green Zone soon after US Vice President Joe Biden landed in the capital. The military released no information on who the suspects were, but added that they had seized three rocket launchers when they made the arrests.
In a message posted to an Islamist website Tuesday night, the Mujahidine Army insurgent group claimed responsibility for the attack, the Washington-based SITE Intelligence Group reported.
"The mujahidine were able to shower the Green Zone and the occupation headquarters ... with six surface-to-surface rockets," the message said.
"They allege that mortars were fired, but we affirm that they were rockets," the group added.
A reporter traveling with Biden on Tuesday night said that several mortars had fallen on the heavily fortified compound in central Baghdad, and that a signal to take cover had sounded soon after the US vice president met with the head of US forces in Iraq, General Ray Odierno, and US Ambassador Chris Hill.
The attacks caused no apparent damage, and there were no immediate reports of casualties.
