Property tycoon Donald Trump revealed his own plans for the new WTC that is to come up in the area presently known as Ground Zero. "It's bigger, it's stronger and it's better than the previous World Trade Center, and it sets the right tone and the right attitude,” Mr. Trump revealed his Olympian intentions.

The existing rebuilding plans came in for some sharp criticism from him; he feels that these plans are the "worst pile of crap architecture I've ever seen". Mr. Trump said the "bigger stronger and better" concept was a fitting reply to the terrorists who destroyed the original buildings in the attacks of September 11, 2001. He showed off his own designs just weeks after the official design was put on hold as here were some serious security concerns regarding the centerpiece 541m Freedom Tower.

"If we rebuild the World Trade Center in the form of a skeleton ... the terrorists win. It's that bad," Trump said and went on to call the design of the Freedom Tower an empty skeleton". The new design is the brainchild of Donald Trump and his structural engineer, Kenneth Gardner.

It essentially modifies the original structure, which was built in 1970 and infamously destroyed in the 9/11 attacks. The main parameter that is modified in this design is height, 449m, almost 30m higher than the previous ones. These towers would be based on a tube-within-a-tube design and boast of improved fireproofing and larger stairwells. Mr. Gardner felt that these modifications would make the towers impregnable to attacks of the 9/11 nature.

Meanwhile, Ground Zero master planner Daniel Libeskind, who was called an “egghead” by Mr. Trump, has reacted strongly to this name-calling. He sent a letter to this effect to Mr. Trump, "I am sure that all of us, whatever the shape of our head or its decorative accessory, agree that security is the paramount concern for the new tower," Libeskind is reported to have said.

Rebuild the Twin Towers!
By: Peter Walukiewicz , Tue, 31 May 2005 20:07:29 GMT

I think that Mr.Donald Trump has shown us what Pataki and the LMDC and the Port Authority could not. Here is one man who really loves New York! He risked quite a lot to say "Rebuild the Towers". I only hope this will become a reality. Pataki and his minions are a stubborn bunch.

REbuilding the Twin Towers
By: Mark B , Thu, 26 May 2005 03:03:45 GMT

Let me add, please no antenna, instead of an attenna, why not put up egg-beater wind powered electrical generators.

Please, no girly-man skeletor junk pile!

Rebuilding the TwinTowers
By: Mark B , Thu, 26 May 2005 02:58:46 GMT

Its about time. Rebuild the twin towers! Bigger, Better, Taller, Stronger! Up thine, Osama!
Bloomberg and Pataki need to go! Both of them! Why not have a recall petition to remove Bloomberg like the Californians did to Grey? It CAN be done. You CAN fight city hall AND the 'Leave Manhattan Destroyed Committee'.
I'm sure that we Oklahomans can spare some tar, feathers and a rail to our brave brothers in NYC.
Are we going to let those people over there have the tallest buildings in the world?
STand up and be Americans, New Yorkers!

Rebuild the Twins!
By: Alex B. , Tue, 24 May 2005 18:45:27 GMT

Way to go, Mr. Trump! Finally someone who Pataki cannot afford to ignore says what most people think. Rebuild the Twin Towers already! These elegant Twin Towers were the essence of New York: they were big. How could anybody possibly propose to replace two monumental 110-story towers with a stumpy 70-floor building with the world's tallest chicken coop on top?

Now a word or two regarding that joke about Africa (I trust that Che-guy must have been joking). Yet, this is not a joking matter. We must understand this issue very clearly if we do not wish to be sacrificed on the altar of altruist cannibalism.

Need is not a claim. Every good that exists on earth has been produced by some individual human being. Americans have earned their money and have the right to spend it on whatever they wish. If they wish to spend it on the greatest works of man, skyscrapers, its is not only their right, but even the best possible use.

If Africans want food and hospitals, they have to earn them. Why don't they produce anything right now? Because their murderous, tyrannical, looting governments make any economic activity impossible. If those Africans wish to survive, they have to overthrow those governments and replace them with government based on the rights of man — based on the conditions necessary for human life. Americans did so in 1776 and thus built the most prosperous nation in the history of the world.

Proposing to loot that wealth to keep some cannibalistic kleptocracy in existence for another day is the most immoral outrage imaginable. It just cannot be taken seriously.

And to anybody who might still refuse to understand the above, who still believes in need, I submit that there is no greater need in the world than New York's need to have her Twin Towers rebuilt.

Rebuild
By: Thomas Keenan , Tue, 24 May 2005 03:45:43 GMT

There is no better way to remember and honor those we lost on 9/11 than by rebuilding the Twin Towers.

And all this "No one will want to work there". That's just crap. The company I work for (Cantor Fitzgerald, who lost 600+ people in the North Tower) stated that they would move into a new Twin Towers.

I'd be proud to work at the WTC again.

I agree with Trump
By: Hector Mercado , Mon, 23 May 2005 23:35:55 GMT

I agree with Mr. Trump. However, I come from the opinion that building anything less than what we already had (WTC before 9/11/01) would be a act of defeat, and overall, an inconprehensible act of cowardness never seen or heard of in American history.

The new towers need to be errected taller and stronger!

Rebuilding is the best way to teach future generations
By: Tom Villars , Mon, 23 May 2005 21:14:28 GMT

Several people have mentioned that rebuilding is a way to forget. I strongly disagree. Without rebuilding how will future generations ever understand the enormity of what happened that day? For them it will be like watching the Hindenburg go up in flames, awful to see on video but similar to the special effects people see in the movies everyday.

But if the towers are rebuilt the experience can be something people can see and touch with their own eyes and hands. It will be a powerful message that hardships can be overcome if people have the will to do so. Do not let the future belong to the destroyers, but to the builders.

The Twins
By: Regan MacBannon , Mon, 23 May 2005 19:47:58 GMT

People are rebuilding after the tsunami. U.S. dollars are rebuilding our enemies homes. What about US? Rebuilt Twin Towers will pay for themselves the first year they open. See the strength, hope, and courage that rose from the ashes. "Reflecting Absences" a 70-story twisted trash can with a King Kong cage on it says it is Osama's NY home. Stop blaming the buildings for what terrorists did.

Bobo

Why is it that you little counter-culture wannabes always have to invoke Che? I'm sure Che would probably have slapped you for such a cowardly and ignorant comment.

Finally, someone steps up and says the twin towers should come back to new york!

I love it!
By: Keith W. Allison , Sat, 21 May 2005 03:35:28 GMT

The Tube-within-a-tube Twins must rise again! Let's get happy and do it, Mr. Trump! You're hired! Taller and stronger! That's the way I like (love) it! And I'm not even from the Big Apple!

Trump Towers
By: Barry Zell , Fri, 20 May 2005 23:36:51 GMT

I agree with Mr. Trump and will go a step further. If I were in charge of the deign, I'd restore the old towers looking as they were. Only stronger and taller.

Take that Terrorists!

Cheers to The Donald!
By: Tal Barzilai , Fri, 20 May 2005 22:58:35 GMT

I am glad that The Donald has decided to back the Gardner and Belton. He made the right choice. Ever since I saw the Twin Towers being attacked from the Throgs Neck Bridge, I wanted them to be rebuilt, to show that we cannot be beatean. However, the Governor Pataki made sure that they wouldn't be rebuilt, and has used anything he can such as thinking about the familes to not have them back. Since then I have fought tooth and nail to see them back. I give The Donald a big thank you for supporting the rebuilding of the Twin Tower. If he would finance the construction, then he would show that there is money for it.

THANK GOD THERE IS DONALD TRUMP
By: Sergey Feskov , Fri, 20 May 2005 20:56:47 GMT

Yes Yes Yes!!!!!! You only people say that we are land of the free and home of the brave. What takes so long to start rebuilding the new, tallest, strongest, safest, most known, and worlds best skysrapers. If terrorist did what they did it doesnt meen that they will do it again and even if they try they will fail, because of our airforce, think about it, last week some kind of small plane got into NO FLY ZONE the two jets were up in seconds and firing warning shots. THE IS NO WAY TERRORIST CAN DISTROY THEM IF THEY ARE REBUILT. The security will be the highest. THANKS TRUMP YOU ARE THE BEST KEEP DOING WHAT YOU ARE UP TO. YES YES YES !!

Giant Towers Best For All Reasons
By: Louis Epstein , Fri, 20 May 2005 17:09:58 GMT

I've been fighting to get new Towers built literally since the day the old ones fell. The http://www.put.com/wtc site is my group, the World Trade Center Restoration Movement.

Officials have resolutely refused to consider rebuilding the WTC to at least its former height, which is the only thing that ever should have been considered. I hope that Trump has the clout to knock down their walls of invincible ignorance.

New Twins will be safer...the safest skyscrapers ever constructed. They will be more spectacular,a larger tourist draw than the Fraud'em Tower with its see-through dunce cap. They will send the necessary symbolic message that we were not "cut down to size" and "taught a lesson" by the terrorists.

In a war of symbols it is surrender to let the destruction of our symbols go unreversed; it betrays the thousands who died not to reclaim the ground they fell on, redeem their dreams for a new generation, and continue in their footsteps.

When we hold petition drives and rallies we have regularly run out of "YES I'd Work on the 110th Floor!" stickers and more people would work there than could possibly fit!

Never forget that in the official public poll of the self-styled "public process",the Libeskind plan finished last, and "Neither" (of the two plans so bad that they not only met the ridiculous official guidelines but became "finalists") won comfortably.

People don't want the Libeskind site plan or any of its buildings nearly as much as they want what was destroyed to rise again, the only way to truly honor those who died.

Trump WTC
By: Bruce De Cell , Fri, 20 May 2005 15:20:54 GMT

I agree that the WTC site and memorial process and all the plans are garbage. The whole process is completely flawed, there isn't enough room on this form to list what is wrong. Trump enterence into this process at least will open the publics eyes to this fact, but I am not yet convienced that he has the answer. Given the present state of affairs at the WTC site dialog can't hurt anything. I have questions which haven't been answered and maybe Trump can answer them. I have been part of this process from the begining and know that Trump is right about one thing the plans are garbage.

Trumped Again!
By: Lou M , Fri, 20 May 2005 11:59:56 GMT

Everybody laughs at him, yet why is he the ONLY NY'er to suggest that the 2 towers be essentially rebuilt? Spectacular idea, to say the least. The idea of a color like gleaming Platinum or Aluminum
would truly make this the pride of America. Love
your comments "6": hey, let's build a memorial to the terrorists! After all, we are 'picking' on the real VICTIMS now, aren't we? "THINK"? I think
you need take your book of lies and find a new country to live in!!!!!!

Rebuild the Towers, but will the space rent?
By: andy everett , Fri, 20 May 2005 11:58:15 GMT

Who takes the risk if the new Towers are hard to fill. Rebuilding them is the right thing to do if it makes economic sense.

Three cheers for New York City.

Trump is right
By: Vic Kurdian , Fri, 20 May 2005 11:51:33 GMT

Thank you Mr. Trump. Althought I can not stand your TV shows, I really appreciate your stand on the WTC.
America has always been for " bigger and better".
A wimpy structure transforming the WTC into a cemetry and memorial park will be a win for the terrorists.
Bring back the twin towers. New York has always been for standing tall !

TOTAL agreement !!
By: Jim Brownlee , Fri, 20 May 2005 11:48:19 GMT

I fully agree with Mr. Trump. A show of unity and strength is what is needed here. An updated design is the way to go.

Common sense

Yes, replace with bigger, stronger safer
By: Richard Siano , Fri, 20 May 2005 11:41:16 GMT

At last! Someone with the guts to say the Twin Towers should be rebuilt bigger, stronger and safer.! Thanks, Mr. Trump for your courage to propose the bigger, stronger, safer concept!

The Trumpster hits the mark!
By: Troy O , Fri, 20 May 2005 11:37:05 GMT

I agree with The Donald completely. The 'skeleton', The 'Glass House'.. It's just not New York.
New York is tough, it's gritty. It stands up to Bullies. It won't be bullied.
Let's show and prove and rebuild the towers.
We will never forget! Not at all...
But we can't be afraid.
We are New Yorkers!
Bring em back! Stop wasting time!

Towers
By: I am for Trump's plan . , Fri, 20 May 2005 11:37:01 GMT

Yes , let's rebuild them bigger and stronger to show we have not been cowed by terrorism into putting up a skeleton !

Finally, someone not afraid to say what we all think
By: R Johansen , Fri, 20 May 2005 11:36:16 GMT

I completely agee with trump. Rebuild the towers!

twin tower
By: Pierre Gregoire , Fri, 20 May 2005 11:34:40 GMT

respect is important for those who died on sept.11,but progress can't stop ,what i like about the idea of a new design by Donald trump is that it will be first class.

TWIN TOWERS REBUILD
By: Joe Palmer , Fri, 20 May 2005 11:32:43 GMT

From day one I thought they should be rebuilt in the same basic design, but bigger and stronger as a statement of defiance. But when no one else mentioned this I figured I must be out of step. Now I see there's actually a lot of support for this concept. Way to go Mr. Trump! Let's make them bigger and better.

Tough Call.
By: Chris Teague , Fri, 20 May 2005 11:32:30 GMT

They didn't build something new onto the Pentagon when it was hit. They rebuilt it and are most likely planning some sort of memorial item, like a plaque or a small shrine.

Why should there be any reason to build some anorexic, emaciated spire where the WTC was before? It's best to bring back the original design, and add the "six billion dollar man" touch to it. Bigger, Stronger. (Faster? Well, bigger stairwells, I guess.)

As for "What would we do if it weren't for Donald Trump? :)" I'll tell you where we would be. We'd be here with one less inane (look it up) television show behind us.

Trump is right.

Trump is right.

Rock on USA & Trump!
By: Joe McPherson , Fri, 20 May 2005 11:28:31 GMT

Lets get to work and build it back. The entire plan from the redesign of the structures integrity to the memorial for the victims is a masterpiece.

It just isn't the City without the towers
By: Frank the NYC Commuter , Fri, 20 May 2005 11:27:26 GMT

when you take the train into the city, there's a stretch where you're above ground and you're going through the burroughs and you look out at the skyline and have no idea you're approaching New York. The chrysler building, nothing stands out sufficiently, you could be coming into Philly or Baltimore for all you know. But seeing the towers, THEN you knew you were a few minutes from the greatest city in the world. We do need to have the towers back, it doesn't feel like New York without them.

'oh I know, let's just pretend it never happened'
By: IJF , Fri, 20 May 2005 11:20:23 GMT

I never thought about that before. I think something resembeling the old towers should be built there again, something bigger and stronger -- to prove we are bigger and stronger than terrorists. But at the same time, it needs to be significantly different than the old towers. If the towers are identical, no young person visiting the city for the first time will understand or really even care about the whole event. The towers will look the same to them as they do in all the old pictures.

By: 6 , Fri, 20 May 2005 10:52:11 GMT

WHY on earth would anyone rebuild this?!?! Please tell me!!! for more and more money too be WASTED!! Please stop picking on damn terrorists... yes we know they kill people but what about the US military. I'm we don't kill (yeah right) Hey people you think the terrorist have a reason for doing what they are doing? THINK

Two towers
By: Ron Jones , Fri, 20 May 2005 09:42:15 GMT

I was never crazy about the look of the twin towers; that is until they were destroyed. Now the south Manhattan skyline needs a strong focal point that a two tower design would provide. A safer design with and updated exterior would look great. Trump has the right idea.

Kudos to Donald Trump!
By: Mario Enardecido , Fri, 20 May 2005 08:41:56 GMT

Donald Trump is right.
Building a skeleton over a heroic spot is a lot of crap.
To have a building of the same design as the original WTC is a sign of courage and strength.
Strengthening the design and dding 1 more floor is a sign that we became better and stronger after what happened on 9/11. If they destroy that building again (God forbid!), we'll rebuild -- same design, much much stronger and 10 floors taller!!!

Skeleton?
By: Gino Bernardo Visitacion , Fri, 20 May 2005 08:34:38 GMT

Your house got burned killing your family, would you construct a memorial in place in the form of the skeleton of your house's skeleton and your family's skeletons? Is it nice to see the standing skeleton of JFK or Martin Luther King placed in the place where he died?

When I was a child, a sarcastic bully destroyed my sand castles -- I fought back and built up again my sand castles.

Donald Trump is right.
I would do the same with the World Trade Center.

That's a sign of strength and courage.

Why?
By: Monkey Habit , Fri, 20 May 2005 08:11:21 GMT

Why? So what happened on September 11 can be forgotten easier? I'd rather see something more original than both the empty skeleton and Trump's "oh I know, let's just pretend it never happened" towers.

Good
By: Alex S. , Fri, 20 May 2005 08:05:05 GMT

What would we do if it weren't for Donald Trump? :)

About time!
By: Jerry A. , Fri, 20 May 2005 06:50:43 GMT

I can't believe it took so long for someone to finally figure out that the empty skeleton idea is terrible! While it is true that we can never replace the originals and their occupants, we can do much better than to erect an empty shell to remember them by. Let's put something there that makes us proud instead of depressed every time we see it, and shows the rest of the world that we bounced back bigger and stronger!

I like it
By: Wayne Schulz , Fri, 20 May 2005 05:05:49 GMT

Looks kinda the same as the originals, just bigger and stronger. Good for continuity and when finished the skyline will look like I remember.
