Paris - A 19-year-old Frenchman who fell asleep on a railway track after having at least one drink too many was unhurt after a high-speed TGV train ran over him, a police spokesman in the city of Vannes said Monday. In fact, not only did the young man come away without a scratch, but the noise of the train rolling over him early Sunday did not even wake him.
The TGV came to a screeching halt several hundred metres past the sleeping man.
He was finally awakened by the train conductor and rescue workers, and he reacted by displaying his middle finger for having his sleep disturbed.
The young man may never know just how close he came to never waking up. He slept between the two rails in such a way that there were only 10 centimetres of space on the sides and 20 centimetres on top between himself and the train.
