London - The Football Association confirmed on Sunday that it will look into Emmanuel Adebayor's celebration after scoring for Manchester City against Arsenal, and an alleged stamp by the Togo forward on Robin van Persie. Adebayor, who left Arsenal for City in the summer, put his new club 3-1 up with 10 minutes of Saturday's game remaining, and ran the length of the field to celebrate in front of fans of his former club.
They reacted furiously, pelting him with missiles including a steward's chair.
A steward required hospital treatment after being struck on the head.
He had earlier left Van Persie with a gashed face after an apparent stamp.
The Arsenal forward took the highly unusual step of condemning Adebayor's actions on the club website, calling them "mindless and malicious".
"I was pretty unimpressed really because the problems between the Arsenal fans and Adebayor are well documented, and he ran the whole length of the field to celebrate, so I think we are going to have a good close look at that one on Monday when we see it properly in the cold light of day," FA chief executive Ian Watmore told BBC radio.
"I thought the stewards did a great job of calming the situation down and it was to Manchester City's credit nothing worse happened.
"Our governance team will take a good look at both of the incidents that have been highlighted and will come to the media with the answers early next week."
City won the game 4-2 to maintain their 100 per cent start to the season.
