New York - Officials plan to come down hard on a US Open fan who managed to get onto court and plant a kiss on the cheek of Rafael Nadal during the Spaniard's fourth-round defeat of Gael Monfils. Police said that 23-year-old Noam Aorta faces charges of interfering with a sporting event and could face a fine of 5,000 dollars and a year in jail after the incident late in the contest.

Nadal was left wondering what the fuss was about and actually tried to get security personnel to lighten up as they took the interloper into custody and handcuffed him.

The four-time French Open winner made light of the incident later. "For me it wasn't a problem. The guy was really nice. He was a great fan. He said, 'I love you' and he kissed me."
