Berlin - IFA, Europe's biggest consumer-electronics show, was drawing to a close Wednesday with retailers and distributors having placed record orders, organizers said in Berlin. Exhibitors said they signed up business worth more than 3 billion euros (4.4 billion dollars) during the fair, which began Friday.
The German consumer-electronics trade association GFU, which organizes the event, said the number of visitors, 229,000, was also up by 9,000 from last year. IFA encourages public attendance.
GFU president Rainer Hecker said both traders and manufacturers had gained security to plan for the future, with the German market proving stable whereas other European markets had suffered sales slumps.
The 1,164 exhibitors in Berlin showed new-model flat-panel televisions, personal audio devices, home appliances and other products.
