Bratislava - A Slovak court on Wednesday declared Slovak- based low-cost airline SkyEurope Airlines AS bankrupt. The court gave creditors were given 45 days to register their claims.
The airline halted its operations on August 31, after a court-appointed trustee initiated the bankruptcy proceedings as the budget carrier lacked finances to restructure itself.
The Bratislava District Court I, which granted SkyEurope creditor protection in June, also appointed the airline's liquidator, spokesman Pavol Adamciak said.
SkyEurope said last week that it was winding up its operations, including handing over planes to lessors and banks.
The carrier never made a profit since starting operations in 2002. Its shutdown left thousands of travellers stranded last week and the firm said it sold some 280,000 tickets for cancelled flights.
