London - A British soldier was killed during an operation to free a journalist who had been kidnapped in Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) in London confirmed Wednesday. British-Irish national Stephen Farrell, who worked for the New York Times, was freed in a raid on a house in Kunduz province where he and his interpreter had been held. The interpreter, Sultan Munadi, and a civilian were killed during the operation in which clashes occurred between international forces and militants. Farrell and Munadi were seized by a group of armed men Saturday while visiting the site of a NATO airstrike on two Taliban-hijacked fuel trucks.
