Malaysian police halt wheelchair-bound man's crime spree

Kuala Lumpur - Malaysian police caught a wheelchair-bound man who they said went on a crime spree, using a rock to smash car windows and steal items from the vehicles, a news report said Wednesday. The 27-year-old had broken into two vehicles before police nabbed him Monday in George Town with stereo equipment, a mobile phone and cash, Hisan Hamzah, deputy police chief of the northern state of Penang, told the Star newspaper. "We nabbed him on the spot following information from the public," Hisan was quoted as saying. "We have confiscated the stolen goods and also his wheelchair." The suspect had a record of two previous thefts, he said. Police said the suspect would be charged with theft and, if found guilty, faces a seven-year prison sentence.
