Vienna - US singers Mary J Blige and Chris Brown are among the artists to perform at a tribute concert for Michael Jackson in Vienna, the late popstar's brother Jermaine announced Tuesday in the Austrian capital. Organizers claimed that Michael Jackson's children and his mother, Katherine, are planning to attend the September 26 event, which will be staged in front of the Schoenbrunn Palace.
But reports in the US said that Katherine Jackson and other family members objected to the concert and would not attend.
The celebrity news website TMZ.com said that Jermaine pressured Katherine to back the concert, though she fails to see the reason for holding the first memorial to the late superstar in a country with which he had no particular ties.
Among the performers set to perform Jackson's greatest hits include Jermaine Jackson, Akon, Natalie Cole and Angela Bassett, as well as the group Sister Sledge.
Some Austrian media expressed disappointment that no superstars had signed up for the only official tribute for the late "King of Pop."
"Jackson tribute: Stars still missing," ran the headline for an online story by Austrian public broadcaster ORF.
Media had speculated that Madonna or the band U2 would perform.
Organizers said the roster of artists includes 20 or 25 names, and the remaining singers would be made public later this week.
Michael Jackson died June 25 at the age of 50 from an overdose of a powerful anaesthetic.
