Naples -A man in Naples became the first person to die from swine flu in Italy on Friday, according to Italian news agency Ansa. The 51 year-old man from Secondigliano was found to have been infected by the H1N1 virus, though heart failure was said to be the ultimate cause of death.
The man had been taken to hospital at the end of last week. Doctors said his condition was complicated by a number of other health issues including kidney problems and severe diabetes.
2,700 Italians have so far been diagnosed with swine flu, a further 2,900 are suspected to be infected with the H1N1 virus, according to the health ministry. In the majority of cases, a full recovery was made.
