Berlin - Hobby photographers have long since discovered the appeal of storing their images in raw image format, which offers high quality results that don't suffer with data compression. However, this isn't a standardized format, warns BITKOM, a German computer industry association. That means there can be problems when converting raw images files into other formats.
Thus, photographers are best off if they also save their images as JPEG or TIFF files, and not just on the hard drive. It's best to keep backup copies on an external hard drive, but also on CDs, DVDs, Blu-ray discs or other storage options.
