Ranchi, Feb 7 Police Tuesday busted a counterfeit currency racket here by arresting 10 persons, saying that the currencies were supplied from Pakistan to India via Bangladesh.Senior Superintendent of Police Naresh Prasad Singh said Tuesday that the accused claimed that counterfeit currencies were supplied from Pakistan to as many as 14 bordering villages in West Bengal via Dhaka.Police recovered counterfeit currency worth Rs.360,000 in the denominations of Rs.500 and Rs.1,000, apart from Rs.50,000 in genuine cash.Two of the arrested, Sadhan Mandal (22) from Malda in West Bengal and Ainul (40) from Ranchi, were produced before the media Tuesday.Mandal claimed that the fake currencies are printed in Pakistan and sent to India via Dhaka. Hundreds of agents based at Malda are then fanned out to different parts of India to sell the fake currency, he added.As per the confessions of the arrested, some nefarious elements from Pakistan have set up at Mohabbat Nagar village situated near Dhaka a distribution point from where they push counterfeit currencies in Indian market.City Superintendent of Police Akhilesh Jha said that raids are on to arrest other members of the gang in Ranchi. 'As per the arrested gang members, over 20 persons are involved in the racket in Ranchi alone,' Jha added.The arrested people confessed to have pushed counterfeit currencies worth millions of rupees into Ranchi and its adjoining areas.
