Washington - German Benjamin Becker sent over a massive 27 aces Tuesday to lift into a second-round confrontation with Wimbledon finalist Andy Roddick at the Legg Mason Classic. Becker has lost both of his previous matches with Roddick, the top seed who will make his first start since a five-set loss to Roger Federer a month ago in the Wimbledon final.
Ginepri was trying to maintain momentum from his title in Indianapolis, Indian - his first since 2005 at the same venue - but was derailed at the first hurdle in Rock Creek Park.
Becker, ranked 47th, won his 11th match this season against seven defeats.
Becker handed over a seventh double-fault of the match in the closing stages of the final-set tiebreaker but saved himself in the end with an ace to reach the second round.
