London - A British teenager who made headlines last year for refusing a heart transplant after years of ill-health has now undergone the life-saving operation, reports said Wednesday. Hannah Jones, 14, who suffered leukaemia as a young child and has a hole in her heart, told doctors last November that she had had enough of years of medical treatment.
But she was said to have changed her mind last week after reportedly suffering kidney failure following celebrations for her 14th birthday.
Her parents, who had supported her earlier decision, were at her bedside at London's Great Ormond Street Hospital, reports said.
A spokeswoman for the children's hospital said: "We can confirm Hannah is a patient at Great Ormond Street Hospital. Without commenting on an individual case, speculating about the date of an organ transplant violates the privacy and dignity of the donor family."
