Athens - The Greek capital Athens was the scene of several more arson attacks, believed to have been carried out by leftist groups early Tuesday. The attacks targeted, among others, the offices of the ruling New Democracy party, the country's main opposition Socialist PASOK party and the small ultra-conservative People's Orthodox Rally (LAOS) party.

Media reports said the attacks, in which household gas cylinders and petrol bombs were used, caused substantial damage. No injuries were reported due to the attacks that occurred between 3 am and 3:30 am (0000-0030 GMT).

No one claimed responsibility for the attacks but police suspect leftist groups.

Greece has been plagued by bombings and arson attacks on banks, multinational businesses and police stations since the police shooting of a teenager in December, which sparked the worst riots the country has seen in decades.
