San Francisco - Retail auction site eBay saw second-quarter revenue and profit slide as the sluggish economy reduced auction sales and traffic to its web site. The internet pioneer said profits were 327 million dollars, down 29 per cent from the 460 million dollars it earned a year ago. Revenue dropped 4 per cent to 2.1 billion dollars from 2.2 billion in the year-ago quarter.
"We drove solid second quarter results, with strong momentum and market share gains at PayPal and continued stabilization in our core eBay business," said John Donahoe, eBay's chief executive, in a statement. "I'm pleased with our pace, our progress and our performance."
