Beijing - An earthquake with a magnitude on the Richter scale of 6.0 struck south-western China, with an initial casualty toll of 336 injured included about 30 people in serious condition, Chinese state-run radio reported Friday. The quake struck Thursday evening in mountainous Yunnan province at a depth of 10 kilometres below the ground. About 10,000 homes were destroyed and more than 30,000 damaged. Several aftershocks followed. The thousands left homeless and tens of thousands more in fear of aftershocks spent the night outdoors. Civil defence workers and the army were mobilized to assist in rescue and recovery efforts, and relief supplies are being sent to the affected region.
