Baghdad - Two people were killed and 18 wounded Wednesday when an explosive device detonated in southern Baghdad, witnesses told the German Press Agency dpa. "The bomb was placed inside the car which exploded, injuring many people passing nearby and damaging other parked cars in Halla district," witnesses said.

Meanwhile, a police source said that seven Iraqis were injured, including two policemen, when a gunman threw a bomb at a police patrol in central Mosul.

Mosul, some 400 kilometres north of Baghdad, has seen several explosions since the US withdrawal from Iraqi cities and towns on June 30.

Three policemen and two army officers were killed, while 20 Iraqis were injured in three separate attacks in the past few days.
