Munich - BMW is extending the 1-Series model range for 2010 with the addition of a 120i coupe and 118d coupe fitted with more efficient and economical engines, according to the car maker. In addition the 1-series would also be pepped-up with "lifestyle" and "sport" editions for the three and five-door versions.

The new 120i coupe is powered by a high-precision injection engine with an output of 125 kW/170 hp and an average consumption of 6.6 litres per 100 kilometres. The carbon dioxide emission level is listed at 153 grammes per kilometre.

The smaller 118d coupe has an output of 105 kW/143 hp with an average consumption of 4.5 litres per 100 kilometres and a CO2 emission figure of 119 g/km. The three-door 118d last year won the World Green Car Award.

BMW likes to point out that 21 model variations in the 1-Series now comply with the EU5 emission standard. Both coupes are fitted with brake-regeneration technology, start-stop and other fuel-saving measures.

Several extras are available in the "lifestyle" and "sport" editions including metallic brown exterior and 17-inch five-spoke alloy wheels. Leather steering wheels with multi-functional buttons and seat covers in magma brown will also be offered.

Starting with the 2010 model year the 1-Series would also be available with a new version of the "Business" navigation system with map details depicted in two dimensions.
