London - Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, the latest film based on the adventure series by British author JK Rowling, had its world premiere amidst a ferocious thunderstorm in London Tuesday. Despite hailstorms and thunderous downpours, thousands had gathered in London's Leicester Square to cheer the arrival of the star trio of Daniel Radcliffe (Harry), Emma Watson (Hermione) and Rupert Grint (Ron) for the first official showing.

The film, which adds elements of romance, jealousy and heartbreak to the traditional Potter plot, has been praised as an "elegant addition to the series" by critics in Britain.

It goes on general release on July 15.
