Hamburg - The only piloted plane in the world to be powered by a fuel-cell engine made its first public flight over the German city of Hamburg Tuesday. During its 10-minute flight, the Antares DLR-H2 was steered by Axel Lange, 46, chief of one of the firms which adapted the motor-assisted glider to demonstrate the new propulsion technology.
German aerospace agency DLR, Lange Aviation, BASF Fuel Cells and Danish company Serenergy teamed up for the project, with Airbus contributing some work. They said the plane was unique worldwide.
