Paris - Acoustic signals from the data recorders of the Yemenia airliner that crashed near the Comoros islands on Tuesday have been detected, according to a French investigative agency. Signals were picked up Sunday morning, reported the agency that investigates aerial accidents. However, it was unclear if the transmission devices had been separated from the voice and flight data recorders in the crash.
Investigators hope to recover the recorders in an effort to learn more about the crash, which occurred in bad weather Tuesday after the plane owned by the Yemeni airline had already called off one attempt at landing. There was one survivor of the crash, in which 152 people died.
Since the crash, there has been lingering controversy about whether the Airbus A310 was safe for flight, although Yemenia has rebuffed all accusations of irregularities with the aircraft.
