Sydney - Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd said Friday that the crucial Copenhagen talks on climate change in December would feature heavily in a trip to Malaysia and Europe. Rudd kicks off his six-day trip Monday in Kuala Lumpur, the Malaysian capital.

He journeys on to Berlin for a meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and to Zurich for talks with world soccer body FIFA chief Sepp Blatter.

Before returning at the end of the week, Rudd will spend two days in Italy during which he will meet Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi and visit the Vatican for an audience with Pope Benedict XVI.

The former diplomat will travel to the earthquake-ravaged town of L'Aquila for a meeting of the 17-nation Major Economies Forum.

Copenhagen

That Kevin 747 justifies this trip as a Copenhagen pre-emptive is a joke. If he was serious about Copenhagen he'd be off to Beijing to discuss China's demand for developed countries to reduce emissions 40% by 2020. Oh that's right China finds him a little difficult to deal with!
