Geneva - Exports of transport and travel services declined in March by 22 per cent and 15 per cent respectively, in contrast to most non-financial services, World Trade Organization chief Pascal Lamy said in a report. Swine flu has impacted trade, the report noted, as some countries have blocked imports of pork, in spite of recommendations saying that pigs posed no threat and the virus was spread by humans.
The outbreak was also hitting the travel sector in affected countries hard.
"It is likely that fears relating to the A(H1N1) flu have had an additional adverse effect on US transport and travel exports in the past two months," Lamy wrote in his report, using the technical name for the virus.
