Buenos Aires - The death toll from swine flu in Argentina has risen to 43 or 44, new Health Minister Juan Luis Manzur said Wednesday. The increase means that the number of deaths from swine flu in in the country has almost doubled in the last five days. On Friday the number of deaths stood at 26.
Argentina has suffered the third highest number of deaths from the H1N1 virus after the US and Mexico.
Health experts say that in most cases the symptoms of swine flu are relatively mild, but the illness can be life threatening for people already suffering from poor health and those with inadequate nutrition or healthcare.
Shortly after taking office on Wednesday Manzur announced that 1 billion pesos (264 million dollars) would be spent fighting the H1N1 virus.
