Brussels - Zenit St Petersburg coach Dick Advocaat signed a contract Wednesday to take over as coach of the Belgian national team from January 1, 2010. The 61-year-old Dutchman will remain with the Russian club until November before looking to end the current crisis enveloping the Belgium team.
Previous coach Rene Vandereycken left his post at the start of April after Belgium suffered two defeats to Bosnia-Herzegovina. The Red Devils currently languish fourth in qualifying Group 5 for the 2010 World Cup.
Advocaat previously led the Netherlands to the semi-finals of Euro 2004. He has also had spells with PSV Eindhoven and Scottish club Rangers.
