Amsterdam - Amsterdan's Stedelijk Museum of Modern Art announced Wednesday it had appointed the US-born Ann Goldstein as its new artistic director. The chairman of the museum`s board of trustees, Alexander Ribbink, said Goldstein was the "dream candidate" to realize the museum`s ambitions.
"Ann Goldstein has the capacity to combine serious contents with an American museum culture, which also gives a place to education and business, without compromising itself in order to attract visitors," Ribbink said.
Goldstein, 52, has been working as senior curator of the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art since 2001.
The museum is due to reopen its doors in April 2010, after six years of major renovations to its main building have forced it to exhibit in a series of temporoary locations.
Last month, however, Amsterdam`s culture and arts minister Carolien Gehrels said it was uncertain whether the planned deadline for the museum`s opening would be met.
