Hong Kong - Hong Kong shares fell by nearly 3 per cent Tuesday as hopes of a global recovery were dampened by a gloomy World Bank report. The blue-chip Hang Seng Index dropped by 521.18 points or 2.89 per cent to end the day at 17,538.37. Turnover was 66.2 billion Hong Kong dollars (8.5 billion US dollars.) The losses on the Hong Kong index mirrored falls on Wall Street overnight and on regional markets Tuesday as the World Bank said in a report that emerging economies were slowing, indicating a longer global recession.
