Cairo - US President Barack Obama appeared relaxed on a visit to the Pyramids at Giza soon after making a much-anticipated speech to the world's 1.5 billion Muslims on Thursday. Obama shed his dark suit in favour of a navy-blue golf shirt and sunglasses for the occasion, which was televised on Egyptian state television.

Zahi Hawass, the head of Egypt's antiquities authority, took the US president on a tour of the Pyramids.

The Great Pyramid of Khufu, the largest of the pyramids on the Giza Plateau, was finished around 2560 BC. It is the only remaining wonder of Greek historian Herodotus' seven wonders of the ancient world.

Earlier on Thursday, the US president visited Cairo's 600-year-old Sultan Hassan mosque, discussed Iran and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict with his Egyptian counterpart Hosny Mubarak, and gave a much-anticipated speech to the Muslim world from Cairo University.

He was scheduled to meet with staff from the US Embassy in Cairo before leaving for Dresden, Germany, on Thursday night.
